The Freejacks finally got over the hump and won their first OLW Championship on Saturday at the Wolfe’s Den. The veteran squad, the third-seed in the OLW playoffs, swept the top-seeded Fighters 2 games to none to win the Griffiths Cup.

In game one, the Freejacks hitters worked Fighters starter Griffin McDowell for 7 walks before starting pitcher Brett Caladie hit a two-run homer off reliever Luke Laurino in the third. The Fighers won 4-0 behind Caladie’s 1-hit, 9-strikeout shutout on the mound.

Game two was, like last year, an epic battle between McDowell and Caladie that extended far beyond regulation. The Freejacks walked it off in the bottom of the eighth (!) on a Mike Sidorov bloop single to win the game 1-0, clinching a series sweep.

Caladie picked up another win in the finale, allowing 1 walk and 2 hits over eight innings, striking out 24.

McDowell went 7 2/3 innings in defeat, allowing just the one run, 8 hits and 2 walks, with 22 strikeouts.

PASADENA, MD- The Marauders finished off a dream season by sweeping the Freejacks in two games to win the 2024 Old Line Wiffle Championship. It was the first time the Marauders hoisted the Griffiths Cup.

Playoff MVP Hunter Crawford hit a home run and pitched a no-hitter in game 1, a 10-0 win capped off by a Brian Griffiths grand slam. Crawford pitched another complete game in the Marauders’ 2-1 series clincher in an extra inning game that saw Freejacks pitcher Brett Caladie throw a no-hitter in a losing effort.

The Marauders championship was an incredibly unexpected end to the season for a team that had a 3-24 record as a franchise in OLW’s first two seasons. The club had an OLW best 13-2 regular season record prior to entering the playoffs.

The club was powered by newcomers Crawford (.510/.638/1.333, 13 HR, 38 RBI; 7-1, 1.38 ERA, 7 CG, 4 SHO) and Derek Norris (.574/.657/1.537, 16 HR, 48 RBI; 2-1, 1 SV, 4.20 ERA)

The 2025 Old Line Wiffle season will start on March 8th. Registration information will be available this fall.
